Objective: To explore the effect of degenerative thoracolumbar kyphosis (DTLK) on the sagittal alignment of the spine, as well as the impact on spinal parameters and imbalance secondary to thoracolumbar kyphosis. Methods: A case-control study. A total of 128 DTLK patients who aged over 50 years [thoracolumbar kyphosis (TLK)>15°] treated in Peking University People's Hospital from January 2018 to December 2021 (DTLK group) were retrospectively included in this study. Other 73 contemporaneous patients with lumbar spinal stenosis or disc herniation without thoracolumbar kyphosis (TLK=0°±15°) were enrolled into the control group. The following parameters were obtained on spine X-ray: TLK, thoracic kyphosis (TK), lumbar lordosis (LL) and sagittal vertical axis (SVA). In addition, the osteoporosis (OP) was evaluated by dual-emission X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), and the L5/S1 disc signal grading (Pfirrmann grading) was evaluated on MRI. Based on the age, the Lafage formula SVA=2× (age-55)+25 was used to distinguish balance/imbalance, and the DTLK patients were divided into balanced and an imbalanced group, the characteristics and influencing factors of the loss of sagittal balance in this population were clarified, and the interaction among various parts of the spine under a state of balance was analyzed too. Results: The TK (30.0°±13.5° vs 24.2°±7.4°) and TLK (26.6°±9.7° vs 6.0°±6.6°) in the DTLK group were both larger than those in control group while LL was smaller (34.4°±17.7° vs 44.2°±10.3°) (all P<0.001). TK was correlated to TLK (r=0.234, P=0.008) and LL (r=0.539, P<0.001) in DTLK group. LL loss was positively correlated to L5/S1 disc signal reduction (r=0.253, P=0.044). LL loss [RR=1.04(1.01-1.08)] and OP [RR=3.97(1.09, 14.50)] were influencing factors for the occurrence of imbalance in DTLK patients. The influencing factors for TK in DTLK balance group were LL (ß=0.572, P<0.001) and age (ß=0.351, P=0.045). The positive influencing factor for TK in imbalanced group is LL (ß=0.209, P=0.015), and the impact is weaker than balanced group. Conclusions: Loss of LL and osteoporosis are more likely to cause imbalance and kyphosis in DTLK patients. In DTLK balance group, the proximal spine is regulated by lumbar spine, and the synergistic effect between the two parts maintains balance.

BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis is a major problem in transfusion-dependent thalassemia patients (TDT) patients. Osteoprotegerin (OPG) is one of several bone markers that are closely associated with osteoporosis in TDT patients. OPG is a glycoprotein that functions as a feedback receptor for the Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor kappa B Ligand (RANKL), which is an alpha tumor necrosis factor receptor. One of the causes of decreased bone mass density is iron toxicity, which can be identified by showing elevated transferrin saturation. Bone mass dual X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) is a gold standard for the diagnosis of osteoporosis, these procedures are not commonly available in Indonesia. This study was conducted to analyze the correlation between serum levels of OPG and transferrin saturation in TDT patients. METHODS: A correlational study with a cross-sectional approach analyzed data from TDT patients at Hemato-Oncology Medic Outpatient Clinic, Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, Bandung, Indonesia. Primary data were obtained through blood sampling and anthropometry measurement while secondary data were obtained from the patient's medical records. OPG and transferrin saturation levels were assessed using the ELISA method. Research data were analyzed using the rank Spearman correlation test. RESULTS: Data were collected from 51 research subjects (30 women dan 21 men). The median OPG level was 380 (170-1230) pg/mL and the median transferrin saturation level was 89.4 (66.7 - 96.2)%. Analysis of correlation showed a significant correlation between and transferrin saturation level with a coefficient value of r -0.539 and p-value <0.001. CONCLUSION: There was a significant inverse correlation between OPG with transferrin saturation in TDT patients.

As a continuous process comprising bone resorption and formation, bone remodeling, plays an essential role in maintaining the balance of bone metabolism. One type of metabolic osteopathy is osteoporosis, which is defined by low bone mass and deteriorating bone microstructure. Osteoporosis patients are more likely to experience frequent osteoporotic fractures, which makes osteoporosis prevention and treatment crucial. A growing body of research has revealed that exosomes, which are homogenous vesicles released by most cell types, play a major role in mediating a number of pathophysiological processes, including osteoporosis. Exosomes may act as a mediator in cell-to-cell communication and offer a fresh perspective on information sharing. This review discusses the characteristics of exosomes and outlines the exosomes' underlying mechanism that contributes to the onset of osteoporosis. Recent years have seen a rise in interest in the role of exosomes in osteoporosis, which has given rise to innovative therapeutic approaches for the disease prevention and management.

Orthopedic surgeons treating fractures need to consider comorbidities, including chronic kidney disease (CKD), which affects millions worldwide. CKD patients are at elevated risk of fractures due to osteoporosis, especially in advanced stages. In addition, fractures in CKD patients pose challenges due to impaired bone healing and increased post-fracture complications including surgical site infection and nonunion. In this article, we will discuss factors that must be considered when treating fractures in CKD patients. Perioperative management includes careful adjustment of hemodialysis schedules, selection of anesthetic methods, and addressing bleeding tendencies. Tourniquet usage for fractures in limbs with arteriovenous fistulae should be cautious. Pain medication should be administered carefully, with opioids like hydromorphone preferred over nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Medical management after fractures should address underlying factors and include physical rehabilitation to reduce the risk of subsequent fractures. A comprehensive approach to fracture management in CKD patients can improve outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis (OP) is the result of bone mass reduction and bone structure disorder. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) are the main source of osteogenic precursor cells involved in adult bone remodeling. The involvement of the deubiquitinating enzyme CYLD in OP has recently been discovered. However, the detailed role and mechanism of CYLD remain unknown. METHODS: The OP mouse model was established by performing ovariectomy (OVX) on mice. Hematoxylin and eosin staining, Masson and Immunohistochemical staining were used to assess pathologic changes. Real-time quantitative PCR, Western blot, and immunofluorescence were employed to assess the expression levels of CYLD, WNK1, NLRP3 and osteogenesis-related molecules. The binding relationship between CYLD and WNK1 was validated through a co-immunoprecipitation assay. The osteogenic capacity of BMSCs was determined using Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and alizarin red staining (ARS). Protein ubiquitination was evaluated by a ubiquitination assay. RESULTS: The levels of both CYLD and WNK1 were decreased in bone tissues and BMSCs of OVX mice. Overexpression of CYLD or WNK1 induced osteogenic differentiation in BMSCs. Additionally, NLRP3 inflammation was activated in OVX mice, but its activation was attenuated upon overexpression of CYLD or WNK1. CYLD was observed to reduce the ubiquitination of WNK1, thereby enhancing its protein stability and leading to the inactivation of NLRP3 inflammation. However, the protective effects of CYLD on osteogenic differentiation and NLRP3 inflammation inactivation were diminished upon silencing of WNK1. CONCLUSION: CYLD mitigates NLRP3 inflammasome-triggered pyroptosis in osteoporosis through its deubiquitination of WNK1.

BACKGROUND: In 2018, a grant was provided for an evidence-based guideline on osteoporosis and fracture prevention based on 10 clinically relevant questions. METHODS: A multidisciplinary working group was formed with delegates from Dutch scientific and professional societies, including representatives from the patient's organization and the Dutch Institute for Medical Knowledge. The purpose was to obtain a broad consensus among all participating societies to facilitate the implementation of the updated guideline. RESULTS: Novel recommendations in our guideline are as follows: - In patients with an indication for DXA of the lumbar spine and hips, there is also an indication for VFA. - Directly starting with anabolic drugs (teriparatide or romosozumab) in patients with a very high fracture risk; - Directly starting with zoledronic acid in patients 75 years and over with a hip fracture (independent of DXA); - Directly starting with parenteral drugs (denosumab, teriparatide, zoledronic acid) in glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis with very high fracture risk; - A lifelong fracture risk management, including lifestyle, is indicated from the start of the first treatment. CONCLUSION: In our new multidisciplinary guideline osteoporosis and fracture prevention, we developed 5 "relatively new statements" that are all a crucial step forward in the optimization of diagnosis and treatment for fracture prevention. We also developed 5 flowcharts, and we suppose that this may be helpful for individual doctors and their patients in daily practice and may facilitate implementation.

BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis and its primary complication, fragility fractures, contribute to substantial global morbidity and mortality. Gaucher disease (GD) is caused by glucocerebrosidase (GBA1) deficiency, leading to skeletal complications. This study aimed to investigate the impact of the GBA1 gene on osteoporosis progression in GD patients and the specific populations. METHODS: We selected 8115 patients with osteoporosis (T-score ≤ - 2.5) and 55,942 healthy individuals (T-score > - 1) from a clinical database (N = 95,223). Monocytes from GD patients were evaluated in relation to endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, inflammasome activation, and osteoclastogenesis. An in vitro model of GD patient's cells treated with adeno-associated virus 9 (AAV9)-GBA1 to assess GBA1 enzyme activity, chitotriosidase activity, ER stress, and osteoclast differentiation. Longitudinal dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) data tracking bone density in patients with Gaucher disease (GD) undergoing enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) over an extended period. RESULTS: The GBA1 gene variant rs11264345 was significantly associated [P < 0.002, Odds Ratio (OR) = 1.06] with an increased risk of bone disease. Upregulation of Calnexin, NOD-, LRR- and pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) and Apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a C-terminal caspase recruitment domain (ASC) was positively associated with osteoclastogenesis in patients with GD. In vitro AAV9-GBA1 treatment of GD patient cells led to enhanced GBA1 enzyme activity, reduced chitotriosidase activity, diminished ER stress, and decreased osteoclast differentiation. Long-term bone density data suggests that initiating ERT earlier in GD leads to greater improvements in bone density. CONCLUSIONS: Elevated ER stress and inflammasome activation are indicative of osteoporosis development, suggesting the need for clinical monitoring of patients with GD. Furthermore, disease-associated variant in the GBA1 gene may constitute a risk factor predisposing specific populations to osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis (OP) is a systematic bone disease characterized by low bone mass and fragile bone microarchitecture. Conventional treatment for OP has limited efficacy and long-term toxicity. Synthetic biology makes bacterial extracellular vesicle (BEVs)-based therapeutic strategies a promising alternative for the treatment of OP. Here, we constructed a recombinant probiotics Escherichia coli Nissle 1917-pET28a-ClyA-BMP-2-CXCR4 (ECN-pClyA-BMP-2-CXCR4), in which BMP-2 and CXCR4 were overexpressed in fusion with BEVs surface protein ClyA. Subsequently, we isolated engineered BEVs-BMP-2-CXCR4 (BEVs-BC) for OP therapy. The engineered BEVs-BC exhibited great bone targeting in vivo. In addition, BEVs-BC had good biocompatibility and remarkable ability to promote osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs. Finally, the synthetic biology-based BEVs-BC significantly prevented the OP in an ovariectomized (OVX) mouse model. In conclusion, we constructed BEVs-BC with both bone-targeting and bone-forming in one-step using synthetic biology, which provides an effective strategy for OP and has great potential for industrialization.

Osteoporosis is usually caused by excessive bone resorption and energy metabolism plays a critical role in the development of osteoporosis. However, little is known about the role of energy metabolism-related genes in osteoporosis. This study aimed to explore the important energy metabolism-related genes involved in the development of osteoporosis and develop a diagnosis signature for osteoporosis. The GSE56814, GSE62402, and GSE7158 datasets were downloaded from the NCBI Gene Expression Omnibus. The intersection of differentially expressed genes between high and low levels of body mineral density (BMD) and genes related to energy metabolism were screened as differentially expressed energy metabolism genes (DE-EMGs). Subsequently, a DE-EMG-based diagnostic model was constructed and differential expression of genes in the model was validated by RT-qPCR. Furthermore, a receiver operating characteristic curve and nomogram model were constructed to evaluate the predictive ability of the diagnostic model. Finally, the immune cell types in the merged samples and networks associated with the selected optimal DE-EMGs were constructed. A total of 72 overlapped genes were selected as DE-EMGs, and a five DE-EMG based diagnostic model consisting B4GALT4, ADH4, ACAD11, B4GALT2, and PPP1R3C was established. The areas under the curve of the five genes in the merged training dataset and B4GALT2 in the validation dataset were 0.784 and 0.790, respectively. Moreover, good prognostic prediction ability was observed using the nomogram model (C index = 0.9201; P = 5.507e-14). Significant differences were observed in five immune cell types between the high- and low-BMD groups. These included central memory, effector memory, and activated CD8 T cells, as well as regulatory T cells and activated B cells. A network related to DE-EMGs was constructed, including hsa-miR-23b-3p, DANCR, 17 small-molecule drugs, and two Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways, including metabolic pathways and pyruvate metabolism. Our findings highlighted the important roles of DE-EMGs in the development of osteoporosis. Furthermore, the DANCR/hsa-miR-23b-3p/B4GALT4 axis might provide novel molecular insights into the process of osteoporosis development.

Cement-augmentation is a technique commonly used during posterior lumbar instrumented fusion (PLIF) to reinforce compromised osteoporotic vertebral bone, minimize the risk of loosening screws, enhance stability, and improve overall surgical outcomes. In this study, we introduce a novel segmented vertebral body regional modeling approach to investigate the effects of osteoporosis and cement-augmented lumbar fusion on disc biomechanics at spinal levels adjacent to the fused vertebrae. Using our previously validated personalized-poroelastic-osteoligamentous FE model of the spine, fusion was simulated at L4-L5, and the biomechanics of adjacent levels were studied for 30 patients (non-osteoporotic patients (N = 15), osteoporotic patients (N = 15)). PLIF models, with and without cement-augmentation, were developed and compared after an 8 h-rest period (200 N), following a 16 h-cyclic compressive loading of 500-1000 N (40 and 20 min, respectively). Movement in different directions (flexion/ extension/ lateral bending/ axial rotation) was simulated using 10Nm moment before and after cyclic loading. The material mapping algorithm was validated by comparing the results of voxel-based and parametric models. The FE cement-augmented models, subject to daily activity loading, demonstrated significant differences in disc height loss and fluid loss as compared to non-cemented models. The calculated axial stress and fiber strain values were also significantly higher for these models. This work demonstrates that although osteoporosis does not significantly alter the time-dependent characteristics of adjacent IVDs post-surgery, cement-augmentation increases the risk of adjacent segment disease (ASD) incidence. A holistic understanding of the trade-offs and long-term complex interplay between structural reinforcement modalities, including cement augmentation, and altered biomechanics warrants further investigation.

OBJECTIVE: Osteoporosis (OP), a persistent metabolic bone disorder linked with inflammation, has an undetermined cause. In our research, we employed bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the interplay between OP and inflammation agents. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed two-way pooled-level MR analyses to characterize the causal relationship between 41 circulating inflammatory modulators and OP. Genetic variation data for the 41 regulatory factors associated with inflammation were obtained from genome-wide association studies (GWASs) of human cytokines. Bone mineral density (BMD) was utilized as a phenotype for OP in our approach. The BMD dataset, sourced from the GEFOS consortium, a large GWAS meta-analysis study and UK Biobank, was classified based on varied sections [whole body (TB), lumbar spine (LS), femoral neck (FN), forearm (FA), and heel] and age brackets (0-15 years, 15-30 years, 30-45 years, 45-60 years, and above 60 years). Primary MR analyses were executed using the inverse variance weighting (IVW) method, and sensitivity analyses were performed using the MR-Egger, weighted median, simple model, and weighted model. Cochran's Q test was utilized to evaluate the existence of heterogeneity. We used MR-Egger regression and MR multiplicity of residuals and outliers (MR-PRESSO) to assess pleiotropy. RESULTS: After false discovery rate (FDR) correction, elevated levels of circulating interleukin-8 (IL-8) [ß = 0.072 (0.031-0.114), p < 0.01], macrophage inflammatory protein-1b (MIP-1ß) [ß = 0.008 (0.003-0.013), p < 0.01; ß = 0.026 (0.009-0.042), p < 0.01], and cutaneous T-cell attracting chemokine (CTACK) [ß = 0.037 (0.017-0.056), p < 0.01] was associated with a reduced risk of OP. Reduced levels of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), IL-1ra, IL-10, macrophage colony-stimulating factor (MCSF), and MIP-1α were associated with a reduced risk of OP [ß = -0.030 (-0.047 - -0.013), p < 0.01; ß = -0.025 (-0.041 - -0.010), p < 0.01; ß = -0.018 (-0.029 - -0.007), p < 0.01; ß = -0.060 (-0.097 - -0.024), p < 0.01; ß = -0.118 (-0.190 - -0.047), p < 0.01]. We observed a significant causal correlation between FN-BMD and MCP-3 (FDR < 0.05). The occurrence of OP may also lead to elevated levels of MCP3 [ß = -0.466 (-0.714 - -0.217), p < 0.01]. The reliability of the results was confirmed by sensitivity analyses. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated the pathogenic role of circulating inflammatory modulators in OP using bidirectional MR analysis. This further deepens the understanding of OP pathogenesis and provides new ideas for therapeutic intervention in OP.

OBJECTIVE: This study assessed the impact of an anti-sclerostin monoclonal antibody (Scl-Ab)-based osteoporosis drug on the post-extraction alveolar repair of ovariectomized rats. DESIGN: Fifteen female rats were randomly distributed into three groups: CTR (healthy animals), OST (osteoporosis induced by ovariectomy), and OST+Scl-Ab (osteoporosis induction followed by Scl-Ab treatment). Ovariectomy or sham surgery was performed 30 days before baseline, and Scl-Ab or a vehicle was administered accordingly in the groups. After seven days, all rats underwent the first lower molar extraction and were euthanized 15 days later. Computed microtomography, histological analysis, and collagen content measurement were performed on post-extraction sockets and intact mandibular and maxillary bone areas. RESULTS: Microtomographic analyses of the sockets and mandibles did not reveal significant differences between groups on bone morphometric parameters (p > 0.05), while maxillary bone analyses resulted in better maintenance of bone architecture in OST+Scl-Ab, compared to OST (p < 0.05). Descriptive histological analysis and polarization microscopy indicated better post-extraction socket repair characteristics and collagen content in OST+Scl-Ab compared to OST (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Scl-Ab-based medication did not accelerate alveolar bone formation but exhibited better post-extraction repair characteristics, and collagen content compared to ovariectomized animals only.

Osteoporosis is a significant health concern. While multiple techniques have been utilized to diagnose this condition, certain limitations still persist. Raman spectroscopy has shown promise in predicting bone strength in animal models, but its application to humans requires further investigation. In this study, we present an in vitro approach for predicting osteoporosis in 10 patients with hip fractures using Raman spectroscopy. Raman spectra were acquired from exposed femoral heads collected during surgery. Employing a leave-one-out cross-validated linear discriminant analysis (LOOCV-LDA), we achieved accurate classification (90 %) between osteoporotic and osteopenia groups. Additionally, a LOOCV partial least squares regression (PLSR) analysis based on the complete Raman spectra demonstrated a significant prediction (r2 = 0.84, p < 0.05) of bone mineral density as measured by dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). To the best of our knowledge, this study represents the first successful demonstration of Raman spectroscopy correlating with osteoporotic status in humans.

BACKGROUND: Osteopenia and osteoporosis are posing a long-term influence on the aging population's health contributing to a higher risk of mortality, loss of autonomy, hospitalization, and huge health system costs and social burden. Therefore, more pertinent data are needed to demonstrate the current state of osteoporosis. OBJECTIVE: This sampling survey seeks to assess the trends in the prevalence of osteopenia and osteoporosis in a Chinese Han population. METHODS: A community-based cross-sectional study involving 16,377 participants used a multistage sampling method. Bone mineral density was measured using the quantitative ultrasonic densitometry. Student t test and Mann-Whitney U test were used to test the difference between normally and nonnormally distributed quantitative variables between male and female participants. A chi-square (χ2) test was used to compare categorized variables. Stratified analysis was conducted to describe the prevalence rates of osteoporosis (T score ≤-2.5) and osteopenia (T score -2.5 to -1.0) across age, sex, calcium intake, and menopause. A direct standardization method was used to calculate the age-standardized prevalence rates of osteoporosis and osteopenia. T-score was further categorized into quartiles (T1-T4) by age- and sex-specified groups. RESULTS: The prevalence rates of osteopenia and osteoporosis were 40.5% (6633/16,377) and 7.93% (1299/16,377), respectively, and the age-standardized prevalence rates were 27.32% (287,877,129.4/1,053,861,940) and 3.51% (36,974,582.3/1,053,861,940), respectively. There was an increase in osteopenia and osteoporosis prevalence from 21.47% (120/559) to 56.23% (754/1341) and 0.89% (5/559) to 17.23% (231/1341), respectively, as age increased from 18 years to 75 years old. The prevalence rates of osteopenia and osteoporosis were significantly higher in female participants (4238/9645, 43.94% and 1130/9645, 11.72%) than in male participants (2395/6732, 35.58% and 169/6732, 2.51%; P<.001), and in postmenopausal female participants (3638/7493, 48.55% and 1053/7493, 14.05%) than in premenopausal female participants (538/2026, 26.55% and 53/2026, 2.62%; P<.001). In addition, female participants with a history of calcium intake had a lower osteoporosis prevalence rate than female participants without any history of calcium intake in all age groups (P=.004). From low quartile to high quartile of T-score, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus (752/4037, 18.63%; 779/4029, 19.33%; 769/3894, 19.75%; and 869/3879, 22.4%) and dyslipidemia (2228/4036, 55.2%; 2304/4027, 57.21%; 2306/3891, 59.26%; and 2379/3878, 61.35%) were linearly increased (P<.001), while the prevalence of cancer (112/4037, 2.77%; 110/4029, 2.73%; 103/3894, 2.65%; and 77/3879, 1.99%) was decreased (P=.03). CONCLUSIONS: Our data imply that as people age, osteopenia and osteoporosis are more common in females than in males, particularly in postmenopausal females than in premenopausal females, and bone mineral density significantly affects the prevalence of chronic diseases. These findings offer information that can be applied to intervention programs meant to prevent or lessen the burden of osteoporosis in China.

Osteoporosis is a progressive systemic skeletal disease that decreases bone density and bone quality, making them fragile and easy to break. In spite of effective anti-osteoporosis potency, teriparatide, the first anabolic medications approved for the treatment of osteoporosis, was proven to exhibit various side effects. And the relevant structure-activity relationship (SAR) of teriparatide was in need. In this work, we performed a systematical alanine scanning against teriparatide and synthesized 34 teriparatide derivatives. Their biological activities were evaluated and the importance of each residue for anti-osteoporosis activity was also revealed. A remarkable decrease in activity was observed for alanine replacement of the residue Gly12, His14, Ser17, Arg20 and Leu24, showcasing the important role of these residues in teriparatide on anti-osteoporosis activity. On contrary, when Gly13 and Gln30 were mutated to Ala, the peptide derivatives exhibited the significantly increased activities, demonstrating that these two residues could be readily replaced. Our research expanded the peptide library of teriparatide analogues and presented a potential opportunity for designing the more powerful anti-osteoporosis peptide agents.

OBJECTIVE: We established an orthopedic ward fracture liaison services (OWFLS) model and evaluated its role in improving detection rates of bone metabolic markers, treatment rates, and long-term treatability. METHODS: This observational retrospective cohort study included 120 patients aged >50 years hospitalized for primary osteoporotic fracture from January 2018 to January 2019 (group A: not included in OWFLS). Group B (included in OWFLS) comprised 120 patients from February 2019 to February 2020. We compared rates of bone metabolic index testing, treatment, and adherence; symptomatic improvement; and recurrent fracture between groups. RESULTS: Rates of bone metabolism index testing (50% vs. 0%) and medication use (94.2% vs. 64.2%) were significantly higher after OWFLS implementation. There was no significant difference in adherence rates at 3 months between groups (97.3% vs. 93.5%). Adherence rates at 1 and 3 years were better in group B than A (73.5% vs. 51.9%; 57.5% vs. 26%, respectively). Recurrence of bone pain at 1 and 3 years was significantly lower in group B than A (20.4% vs. 46.8%; 45.1% vs. 76.6%, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: OWFLS improved the detection rate of bone metabolism indicators, treatment rate, and patient adherence and reduced recurrence of bone pain. OWFLS may be suitable for settings lacking human resources.

PURPOSE: To investigate the diagnostic value of anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) and Inhibin B (InhB) in menopausal women with osteoporosis from the Chinese Daur ethnic group. METHODS: A total of 175 menopausal women were selected and divided into the osteoporosis group (N = 90) and the control group (N = 85). BMD was measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, and laboratory indicators of osteoporosis, for example, serum osteocalcin (OC), ß-collagen special sequence (ß-CTX), and procollagen type I amino-terminal propeptide (PINP), bone alkaline phosphatase (BALP), AMH, and InhB were measured by commercial kits. The relationship between osteoporosis and AMH or InhB was analyzed. The predictive values of AMH and InhB were reflected by the ROC curve and logistic regression. RESULTS: The level of BMD was decreased and the levels of OC, ß-CTX, PINP, and BALP of the menopausal osteoporosis group were increased. The concentration of AMH and InhB in the menopausal osteoporosis group was decreased and they had connections with each other. AMH and InhB could be used as independent indicators for the occurrence of osteoporosis in menopausal women and their combination had a higher diagnostic value. CONCLUSION: AMH and InhB measurements in menopausal women had a certain clinical significance in the detection of osteoporosis. The occurrence of osteoporosis was related to BMD, OC, ß-CTX, BALP, AMH, and InhB.
